Take journalism

If you tend to read Hi-Line quite a bit, then it’s also highly likely that you would enjoy writing for it too. I know this, because it’s what I did before this year.

For this past school year, I’ve been writing about whatever interested me, music, movies and even some local stories. That is perhaps the best part about journalism; the class lets you follow your bliss and interests, so whatever you might be into, you can most likely write articles about it.

If you have no particular interests or your interests aren’t fitting into article ideas well, you are always encouraged to go outside your comfort zone and write about something you usually don’t think about, learn about something you’ve never heard of. For me, I first had that experience when I decided to write about the local parks in the area, and now I love taking walks through the area, so who knows? You might just find your newest bliss while researching.

If you enjoy writing even slightly, I also highly recommend journalism, as it’s pretty much all you’re doing, although more recently there have been new avenues for people, such as photography and even a podcasting element, so there are multiple ways to get your stories out onto the world.

Whether looking into new things or following old interests, journalism can and will open your eyes, getting you to experience new things or gain fresh perspectives on the things you already love.
