Baggy jeans, thrifted sweatshirts and chunky sneakers fill the hallways, a mix of styles that looks very different from what students were wearing just a few years ago. Fashion trends may change quickly, but students say old styles always seem to come back in new ways.
Sophomore Emily Carter said she thinks current trends are more relaxed than in the past. “Everything used to be really tight and matching,” Carter said. “Now it’s more about oversized clothes and just wearing whatever you think looks good.”
Junior Sam Richards said social media has changed how fast trends are spreading. “Trends used to last longer,” Richards said. “Now something can be popular for a few weeks then everyone moves onto something else.”
Sophomore Alex Nguyen said she noticed that many trends now are inspired by early 2000s fashion. “A lot of people wear baggy jeans and graphic tees now,” Nguyen said. “My older sister has pictures from when she was younger and people are basically dressing the same again.”
While styles continue to change, students say the biggest difference between fashion now and then is confidence. Instead of following one specific trend, many students say people now wear when they want and focus more on personal style instead of being the same.
