Poetry can serve as outlet for feelings

I started poetry in seventh grade, and my first poem was a love poem.  I was inspired by PoetryByAlex, and he is still one of my biggest inspirations, I read his poetry almost every day.  Poetry has become a way for me to express my feelings because I’m more keep to myself when it comes to feelings.

“Losing to you”

I shouldn’t want you yeah  I know,
you’re not mine, and you can’t be so.
But feelings don’t ask what is right,
They bloom like stars in the dead of night.

I try to hide it, play it cool,
pretend my heart’s not such a fool.
But every laugh, each glance, each touch

I fall again, too fast, too much.

I know I shouldn’t feel this way,
but something in me begs to stay.
No matter how I try to quit

I shouldn’t love you, but, god, I can’t help it.

“Losing to you” is about falling in love with someone that you shouldn’t have and that you didn’t intend to. It just happened; you tried to stop the feelings, but your heart had different plans. You know you shouldn’t feel this way, but you can’t help but fall in love with them.

“Brusing for you”

My heart loves you in ways it shouldn’t,
in ways that bruises and blooms  at the same time.
You touch me soft, then cut me deep,
and I still come back like I forgot how to bleed.

I swear I try to walk away

but God, the way you look at me
pulls me right back into the fire
like I was born to burn for you.

Your love is a storm with no warning,
a kiss that tastes like breaking glass,
a promise that falls apart in my hands
and somehow I still hold tight.

You hurt me,
and I tell myself it’s fine,
that love is supposed to ache,
that maybe I’m the one who’s wrong,
that maybe wild hearts like mine
only understand pain dressed as affection.

But the truth is messier:
I love you too much to leave
and not enough to stay whole.

I keep choosing you
even when it shatters me
because something in me believes
your arms are worth the wreckage,
even when they’re the reason
I drown

“Bruising for you” is about dating someone who’s mean to you,  knowing that they’re hurting you, but you are still wanting to date them because you love them.  You sugar coat their actions and pretend like you’re fine with everything even though in reality they are the reason you’re hurting so much.
