The volleyball team was defeated in three sets, falling short of the state tournament by one match last week.

The first-ranked Ankeny Hawkettes earned the right to go to State with a 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 sweep of the Tigers.

Ankeny’s Erin Roggenburg and Maddie Manning proved too much for the Tigers to handle, combining for more than 50 percent of Ankeny’s kills Tuesday night.
The Hawkettes look to become the first 4-A school to win the state tournament three years in a row.

Sophomore Miranda Dusenberry was at the helm Tuesday night leading the Tigers in kills, with eight for the match.

“The team chemistry really stuck out. We all played an important role,” Dusenberry said.

Freshman Kaz Brown contributed to the Tiger effort by leading Cedar Falls in blocks, with four.

The Tigers finished out the season with a 58-38 record.

For seniors Kaitlyn Gillett and Sydney Howard, it was their last high school volleyball game.

“Once we stepped on the court, I felt like we came together as one. I didn’t really think about how I was one of two seniors. Being a captain was just one of my roles,” Gillett said.
