“Thank you, Mrs. Denholm.“ | Counselor leaves lasting legacy of taking high road

Amy Denholm

She should have lived to be at least twice as long. Amy L. Denholm passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at age 45.

She was born May 16, 1973, in Clinton, Iowa, and married Jim Denholm in 2001. They had two sons, Owen and Gavin.

She had over 20 years of experience teaching and helping students all around Iowa, including teaching government at Marshalltown High School and as school counselor at Charles City, Waverly-Shell Rock, Waterloo East and finally, at Cedar Falls High Schools.

She only worked at Cedar Falls High School for four years, but she brought so much joy into it. With an attitude of “always going high” when others go low, she stayed positive throughout years of battling cancer.

Even though she had a short time on Earth, Denholm will be remembered in the halls of Cedar Falls High School. She will be remembered by the teachers, current students, alumni, parents and our community.

Her passing is a reminder to all of us. Value the people around you. Value good experiences. Value your education. Value the small things that make your day better. Value yourself and your time on Earth. That is what she did.

She did have a short life, but impacted so many people as  a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, an educator, a counselor and many other things. She kept her head high while battling one of the toughest diseases and made a lasting imprint on our community.

Thank you, Mrs. Denholm.

Memorials may be directed to Friends of the Family (www.fofia.org) or the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
