‘Office’ veteran outdoing himself weekly with joy-filled YouTube posts

Feeling down in the dumps in quarantine? Makes sense. It seems like negativity is all around our world right now, and it’s getting harder and harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Many of us, myself included, are binging episodes on Netflix and staying up a little bit too late at night. Personally, I’ve been spending way too much time on YouTube, and the reason for that is John Krasinski. You know, the guy who plays Jim Halpert on The Office? Yeah. That guy.

Well, John Krasinski is arguably one of my favorite famous faces and his rank is only improving with each coming week.

On March 29, Krasinski uploaded his first YouTube video as the anchorman of his own news channel called Some Good News. The aim of his channel simply being to show the world there’s still a lot of positivity going around even though it’s hard to see.

Each week, Krasinski highlights tweets, posts and Tik Toks he’s seen that are enough to restore our faith in humanity. The goal of all of this is obviously to make viewers smile, but every week without fail I’ve shed a tear or two at the sweetness of it all. Happy tears, of course.

In the first episode, Krasinki gave us what every Office fan dreams of. He hopped on a call with Steve Carrell and celebrated the 15 year anniversary of the show’s premiere. The two talked about the memories shared on set and joked around just like their characters: Jim and Michael.

Krasinski always has a surprise up his sleeve, shocking guests he brings to the show each week. In the second episode, Krasinksi stunned a little girl with the most amazing musical guests. Aubrey, who was turning nine years old, had tickets to see her favorite Broadway show, Hamilton before it was sadly cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Krasinski told Aubrey he would fly her and her mom out to see the show once it was up and running again, but before letting her go, he invited the cast of the historically-based musical into their Zoom call to perform just for her.

As the weeks go on, it seems Krasinki’s surprises keep getting bigger and bigger. In the third week of his news show he thanked the nurses and doctors of his hometown hospital by giving them a message from Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz and sending them to Fenway Park so they could throw the “opening pitch” to the delayed 2020 MLB season.

Believe it or not though, Krasinski out did himself again when he hosted a virtual prom over YouTube Live on April 17, inviting Chance the Rapper, the Jonas Brothers and Billie Eilish to perform. Krasinski said he was absolutely heart-broken to think the class of 2020 didn’t get to experience their Senior Prom and decided to take matters into his own hands. As a senior who was equally devastated to not have a prom night like I originally planned, I was just as happy to sing and dance along from my couch taking the next best opportunity available. I mean, who else can say that the Jonas Brothers performed at their prom?

As the channel debuts a new episode every Sunday, Krasinski recently uploaded his fifth installment of Some Good News where he hosted a virtual potluck. After asking all of his followers on social media to submit their favorite family recipe, he selected a few from the bunch and matched those lucky people with famous celebrity chefs like Martha Stewart and Guy Fieri. The famous chefs then proceeded to put their own flare on the submitted dish while on a Zoom call with the original recipe holder. Smiles were all around as even virtually people marvelled at their shared love of food.

On Tuesday, April 28, Krasinski posted on social media that he was also working on hosting a virtual graduation ceremony for the class of 2020. The details have yet to be ironed out, but it’s most definitely an event for this year’s seniors to look forward to.

It’s an understatement to say that John Krasinski has made the world a lot brighter with his weekly YouTube uploads. Each week brings me new energy and a big ol’ smile to my face. I can’t wait to see what else my favorite Dunder Mifflin employee has in store. Be sure to subscribe to Some Good News on YouTube and catch up on all these heartwarming tales to make your quarantine a little happier.
