Athlete of the Week: Senior soccer player Truman Unruh

Senior Truman Unruh is currently leading the Tigers in goals and looks to help his team reach the state tournament for the second year in a row.

For you, what was a highlight of your most recent competition?

Definitely beating Washington on their senior night 4-0.

What makes your sport special and different?

What makes soccer so cool in my opinion is the amount of teamwork it takes to win games. Without good communication it’s impossible to move the ball up the field and score any goals.

How long have you been into this sport, and what were the early days of your participation?

Since I was little I’ve been playing soccer. I was 5 year old when I joined my first rec league team that played at Washington park.

How did/do you cope with any setbacks/losses you’ve experienced in your sport?

I think it’s always important to move on after a loss and take things from the game to work on and focus on the bigger picture.

Do you have plans to play this sport after high school?

Yes, I am going to attend the University of Dubuque to play soccer.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your sport?

Scoring goals and celebrating with my teammates is the best feeling.

What has been a highlight for you/your team so far this season?

Scoring five goals against Dubuque Senior in the first half was a big highlight for me so far this season.
