Women’s rugby earns shutouts in recent wins in Waverly

The varsity women’s rugby team raced to a 45-0 win against Indianola at the Waverly Soccer Complex on Monday, Oct. 17. They proceeded to beat Roosevelt after Indianola, winning 66-0.

The Tigers JV Red won 44-0 against Roosevelt, and JV White won against WSR JV 37-0. The Tigers varsity are 7-1 throughout the whole season so far, and the Tigers JV has a record of 9-0 as they remain undefeated.

JV captain sophomore Addi Even said the Tigers season has been like a family. “I enjoy how the sport is so diverse. Bigger stronger girls can play in the pack (two props, hooker and scrum) while the faster smaller girls have a place in the back line (fly, center wing). This wide assortment of girls creates a type of community that’s just fun to be around, like a second family.”

The rugby team will travel for a tournament on Monday, Oct. 24 at Central Springs where the varsity will play Ankeny and Norwalk.
