Men’s cross country place 21st at Alabama national event

The men’s cross country team competed at the third annual RunningLane National Championship meet in Huntsville, Ala., on Dec. 3. They made the 12-hour haul down to Huntsville where they raced some of the best teams and individuals in the nation.

The Tigers recently placed 18th at the Nike XC Heartland Regional meet. They continued their season at Nationals where they were seeded 33rd going into the meet.

At Huntsville on a warm, but very muddy Dec. 3, the Tigers were led by freshman Jaden Merrick who placed 20th and scored 2 points with his time of 16:03, placing him the fifth fastest freshman of the day, and earning his spot on the freshman all star team. He was followed by junior Luke Hartman, who placed 74th with a time of 16:31. They were followed by seniors Collin Johnson, Colby Cryer and Gavin Denholm, and these five were enough to score 133 points, placing them second out of 30 teams in the Silver division, and 21st overall out of over 100 teams.

“It was a very fun experience to have as a senior,” Denholm said. “It was a fun time to go all the way to Alabama with the guys after an incredible season.”

“A lot of memories were made this year, and it was one of the best teams I have been with,” senior Colby Cryer said.

The men’s season now comes to an end after their final race.
