With a concert approaching at Peet Junior High, excitement fills the air, but many band members are feeling the stress. Tuba player Caleb Cox and trumpet player Carsen Hunt shared their insights on how they prepare for the performance.
Hunt said he believes the band is ready and has confidence in his fellow trumpet players.
“They’re pretty good, and I believe we are all ready,” he said.
Despite his confidence, Hunt experiences some anxiety before performances. To manage it, he employs a simple but effective technique.
“I take deep breaths before I go on stage, and I just focus on playing,” he said.
Cox shares Hunt’s optimism about the band’s performance this year, praising the tuba section.
“I think that each one of our tubas is really good this year,” he said.
Cox also uses a similar approach to prepare mentally for the concert and the audience.
“I take some breaths, know that my family is in the crowd, and then kind of just wait,” he said.
Both Cox and Hunt emphasized the importance of practice, whether during Tiger Time, study hall, at home or in their individual lessons each week.
The band will perform on Tuesday, October 29, at Peet Junior High at 7 p.m.
