Application of learning key to value of summer camps

We are at the time where parents would have to sign their kids up for summer camp if they want to go, but is summer camp worth it? 

My brother Mikal did sports camps. “I got to improve my skills and meet other coaches,” he said. “Other camps would be good too if you are willing to put in the work.”

My mom Jane said summer camps for kids might be a good thing or a bad thing. “If they go to work hard and do the best they can, then it is good, but if they go with the intention that they will be social and not work, then it is not worth it.” 

So if camp is to be worth the money, both my brother and mother said it depends on how campers apply the experience.
