Easter is coming up so the spring weather is just around the corner, so let’s share some students’ favorite Easter traditions, and other creative spring activities for the whole family.
For juniors Trinity Jurries and Regan Lyons, Easter wouldn’t be complete without attending a church service to reflect on the deeper meaning of the holiday. Lyons said, “With me and Trinity growing up in the same Catholic school and church, going to events like this especially when we get to see each other is fun. It’s also just a beautiful way to honor the season and its message of hope and renewal when attending mass.” Jurries agreed. “Nothing better than waking up, putting on a pretty floral dress and going to church.”
It’s also really common to catch up with extended family on this day or eat a special fancy meal. Senior Lily Schmitt said, “On Easter my favorite dish on the table is my aunt’s honey ham.”
Senior Alex Conkling said, “I reallly like deviled eggs.”
Jurries said, “In my family they’re called ‘Easter potatoes,’ but essentially they’re cheesy shredded hash browns. I also really love my grandma’s kolaches, specifically apricot.”
Egg hunts are another Easter tradition for many families young or old. Junior Henry Funk said. “For Easter I go up to Minnesota. I still like hunting for eggs with my cousins because I like candy.”
Jurries said, “I typically just help all my smaller cousins out and take pictures. I hope it doesn’t rain too much this year.”
Help welcome Easter and embrace the arrival of spring. It’s not too late to start a garden or plant flowers that will bloom beautifully throughout the season. As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to stay active, whether that’s playing a sport, flying a kite, having a picnic or enjoying some fun at the park. Funk said, “I don’t start planting flowers with my aunt until mid may but that doesn’t mean you can’t start now.”
Jurries said, “My favorite season is spring because 1. It starts to get warmer outside so I can walk. 2. Me and half my family’s birthdays. My family actually joked that my older cousin might make an Easter cake and put ‘Happy Birthday Trinity’ on the side of it just because I’m the only one having a ‘milestone birthday’ this year.”
