Frahm’s class welcomes newborn chicks to room 707

Before watching the eggs hatch in room 707 last week with my teacher Tammy Frahm, I hoped to learn the names of the chicks and what they look like. The incubator stayed exactly 99.5℉, so chicks stayed warm. We added water to the incubator so the chicks could live. The eggs needed to be rotated several times a day so chicks would hatch. Candling is when we can see inside the egg, and so we candled to see if the chicks had grown.

On day 1, the eggs started to rotate.  On day 18, we stopped turning the eggs because they started to hatch.  On day 21, the chicks pecked out of the eggs. The most exciting thing I saw was chicks jumping around on the floor.

They need special care. We used shredded paper, a light heater to keep them warm and a plastic tote for bedding they need. Chicks also need food and fresh water daily.

Senior Jaylan Krall said, the chicks are so cute. There are three colors: brown, black and yellow. Junior Kyann Simmons said she enjoyed hatching the chicks because they were fluffy and soft.

The most interesting fact is that they walk, jump and grow fast. In closing, I had fun learning about the chicks.  It was a blast. Now they are back at a farm and are raised with some ducks.
