The varsity men’s cross country team placed first in the Bobcat Invitational last Thursday, Sept. 10. The 9/10 team also placed first in its race, while the JV earned second place. The meet was held at Marshalltown at the Marshalltown Community College.

Placing highest for Cedar Falls in the varsity race was junior Tanner Reyhons, who got 4th overall. Coming in second place was senior Jacob Tayloe, who got 8th overall, and third was sophomore Andrew Halloran who got 12th overall.

“The best thing about this team is we have a lot of depth and they push each other to be better,” Becker said. This team is ahead of last year’s team, according to Becker. The team has several returning varsity runners who now have more experience, and there have been no injuries. There are 16 returning letter winners.

During the summer, part of the team created a new club called the Flash Running Club. The club was created to run 5k road races during the summer as a team with matching yellow jerseys. Senior Joey Sevcik had the idea for the club with his older brother Daniel in the fall of 2007, but people didn’t have money for the jerseys. The jersey was designed by Sevcik, and their t-shirt was designed by Reyhons.

Rich Engel, the only CFHS home meet, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Birdsall Park.
