CF finds success at Model UN conference

Our View

Congratulations to our fellow CFHS Model United Nations delegates. On April 12-13, they and other delegates from Iowa high schools attended the annual spring Model UN conference at UNI to discuss a host of different global issues. Andrea Aykens is the staff adviser for CFHS Model UN.

Model UN is, essentially, a high school-level version of the actual UN. Delegates representing different countries (CFHS represented Russia and the Congo) split up into different committees to create resolutions to particular topics such as “Establishment of a nuclear free weapon zone in the Middle East region” and “UN role in helping with malnutrition and world hunger.”

Prior to the spring conference, every delegate must write a position paper from the viewpoint of their representing country about one of the given discussion topics. Many of our CFHS delegates received awards for the outstanding quality of their position papers. Congratulations again Germine Alfonse, Ellen Gustavson, Beth Kosmicki, Joseph Kosmicki, Justin Marshall, Katie McClintock, Michael Niedert, Furkan Pecen, Jacob Pence, Ellen Wallingford and Luka Zdilar.

Model UN is an excellent way to widen your global perspective and appreciation for the UN and global issues. The next Model UN season will be this coming fall. Ask Ms. Aykens if you would like to join.
