New York Fashion Show reveals styles for menswear in fall/winter 2017

Red

Red made a huge comeback on the runway at NYFW, appearing in shows from Balenciaga to Raf Simons. Red is an easy and vibrant color to incorporate into your wardrobe in any season and any formality, such as normcore as seen in this jumper by Dries Van Noten. Not only does the color electrify your wardrobe, it can provide a statement when present on accessories or shoes. (Dries Van Noten)

Tech Wear

These jackets have made a large appearance on the luxury runways of New York, including this jacket from Balenciaga. The style is easy to wear with other simple pieces like hoodies or button-downs, and it merges the practical need for a coat in winter weather with the modern take on technical sportswear. Statements

Ironically and stylishly tacky, statements are a major form of expression and satire on the runways and were used throughout fashion week by Calvin Klein, Fendi and Valentino. Words and slogans offer a depth into style that is not portrayed by just colors or angles (not to mention the fact that they look effortlessly cool). (Raf Simons)

The Fleece

Another example of practical streetwear permeating the fashion industry is the fleece. The fleece was seen styled in many different ways throughout fashion week at Supreme, Stüssy and Cottweiler, and was even dressed up with trousers and a tie at Dolce & Gabbana. These outdoorsy pieces are no longer just something out of your dad’s old hiking gear. They are now being used to create a more sophisticated angle on the alfresco classic, such as this fleece by N°21. (N°21)

The Sweatsuit

In recent times, fashion has taken more and more influence from streetwear, which can especially be viewed by the presence of track suits on the runways. The pieces are simple and allow for a more structured take on athletic wear. However, a jacket alone can be worn to go without going all-in on the suit to achieve the same casual-sport feel.
