Two senior react to impacts of fashion choices

Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression. The clothes we choose can reflect our interests, values and aesthetics, often influencing how others perceive us and even how we see ourselves. Here a few students’ thoughts on fashion and its impact on their lives.

Nicholas Adelmund, a senior, gravitates toward simple styles. Regarding his typical clothing choices, he said, “Generally black clothes or something with a simple design, particularly hoodies since I like the way they look and fit around me.”

Nicholas prefers minimalistic fashion, avoiding overly complex outfits. “I really like simple clothing. An outfit with too much going on can feel overwhelming, especially if there are too many small details. I think it fits me since I try not to stand out too much,” he said.

Regarding whether unlimited money would change his approach to fashion, Nicholas said, “I’d probably buy clothes that I like, but overall, probably a lot of hoodies that I think look good.”

Finally, on how his fashion choices affect his mood, he said, “On the occasion that I put effort into my outfit as opposed to wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, I do feel better about myself.”

Senior Aidan Fobian leans toward a more casual style but also finds interest in edgier aesthetics. “I generally wear casual clothes, but I also like what people would call punk or metal clothing. Techwear also looks pretty cool in my opinion,” he said.

For those unfamiliar, Techwear often incorporates functional design elements like extra zippers, pockets and weather-resistant materials, blending style with utility.

Regarding  if he would invest in fashion with unlimited money, Aidan expressed enthusiasm. “Yes, I definitely would. My biggest barrier is the price of quality clothes that won’t last more than a couple of years. Like I said, clothes like Techwear or general cyberpunk aesthetics are really cool-looking to me.”

Aidan also noted how clothing affects his mood. “I usually feel happier wearing a shirt with a design I like. I used to just wear whatever, even if I didn’t care for it, like sports team shirts. Now, it feels better to wear something I actually enjoy.”

Regarding if fashion influences his perception of others, Aidan said, “Clothing can say a lot about a person — how they perceive themselves and how they want others to see them. It’s a small window into someone’s identity.”

These conversations highlight how fashion can be a deeply personal yet universally impactful part of our lives. Whether embracing bold aesthetics or keeping it simple, the way we dress can influence confidence, comfort, and even how we connect with those around us.
