Top songs that relate to 2020

We’re in this together

Wear a mask, don’t wear a mask

The west is burning down

God’s wrath

What does the future look like?

Afraid to come out to live again

One nation under God divided

Battle lines between protests and police

Oppression

Revelations

A nation divided against itself cannot stand

  1. “Ireland’s Hour Of Need” (Gallant Heros)

Although this song is an Irish Rebellion song, it reminds me of the Republicans who are in need of their own rebellion against the rebellion of the liberals. It talks about how the government is divided at one point, but the one line that really speaks to me is, “Our patriots who went before us must be turning in their graves.” I like this lyric because it makes me think of how our founding fathers must be turning in their graves at what their vision for America has become. So, yes, my fellow patriots, this one for you and God Bless The Republican Army.

  1. “Stop Children What’s That Sound?” (Buffalo Springfield)

This song made No. 10 for me because I feel that it is literally describing 2020. It also speaks to my inner hippie since it is an anti-war song, but the reason that I feel it fits so well is because of this lyric: “There’s battle lines being drawn/And nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong/Young people speakin’ their minds/A-gettin’ so much resistance from behind.”

This line reminds me of all the protests going on right now and how even teens have things to say. This is also one of my favorite anti-war songs.

  1. “2525” (Zager and Evans)

This song is about the future, and I chose it because it describes all of the things that could happen in the future since during COVID nobody really knows what it is going to be like when it comes to an end. It is also very catchy.

  1. “Changes” (Tupac)

This song is by a really great poetic rap artist, and it relates to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Tupac is also an activist for this movement.

  1. “Care Makes The World Go Round” (Madonna)

This song, though it is from the ’80s, really gives me a great anti-war song vibe. Madonna not only has a very beautiful voice, but she herself is also very beautiful, and this song is very catchy. It reminds us to love each other and not spread hate everywhere, making it perfect for 2020.

  1. “Hollywood’s Bleeding” (Post Malone)

This song was recommended to me on YouTube because I was listening to Tupac. Though I don’t know the artist, I have heard of him, and when I listened to this, it made me think of the wildfires in California. Here are the lyrics that made me choose it: “Yeah, Hollywood is bleeding, but we call it home Outside, the winter sky turnin’ grey. City up in smoke, it’s only ash when it rains.” It also really makes you think about what happens in this country around the states.

  1. “All The Same” (Nick Wilson)

This is one of my favorite indie songs from IndieAir on YouTube, and though I really like it, it made No. 5 due to the fact that it is not the most important song on this list. I picked this song because it reminds me of how everyone felt in quarantine and still even now. Here are the lyrics that remind me of that: “I see your shadow on the horizon/And I know you see it too/We’re so used to looking out for each other/But this time I can’t see you. Too hard to face it so we hide. It kills me all the same.”

This is why it reminds me of 2020 and made my list.

  1. “Nobody Else” (Backstreet Boys)

This song reminds me of how we take things for granted until we lose them and realize that we really do have it good, especially when we take people for granted because they can’t stay in our lives forever, so I hope you like this song by my favorite band.

  1. “Back When” (Tim McGraw)

This song is for how politically everything has to be now, and that is why it makes my list. “We got too complicated. It’s all way over-rated. Back when a hoe was a hoe/Coke was a coke.” So, people, don’t be afraid to rebel against the political correctness of this broken system.

  1. “Who Knows Where The Time Goes?” (Judy Collins)

This song is not necessarily a favorite of mine, but it is about how winter is coming and all the birds are leaving. I chose this song because it reminds me of how quickly summer passed when we had nothing to do, so that’s why the title reminds me of 2020.

  1. Dr. Lee presents “Can’t Touch This” COVID Parody (Go to YouTube)

This last one is a song that I saved because it’s the best one. It’s a parody of “You Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer. This song is about COVID done by a principal in an Alabama High School. Hopefully, this one will make you laugh because it’s relatable and just because it is funny.
