The men’s cross country team placed fifth at State in Fort Dodge on Friday, Oct. 29. Two runners from the women’s team, Zoe Zylstra and Rachel Mandt, both qualified individually and ran as well.
“I was very proud of Zoe and Rachel after their state performances. I know they ran their best and competed hard. It was a great way to end the season,” coach Amanda Johnson of the women’s team said.
Zylstra placed 41st and Mandt placed 69th at State. Both girls qualified for State at the Divisional meet. Zylstra placed 12th at Divisionals with a time of 19:32, and Mandt finished just behind Zylstra in 13th place with a time of 19:34. Zylstra’s average mile was 6:17 while Mandt’s average mile was only 1 second after Zulstra’s at 6:18.
“When I finished I felt extremely tired and a little sore, but I also had a lot of adrenaline. I was a little disappointed with my time, but I just remember feeling really happy, super proud of my teammate Zoe and honestly really excited to be done,” Mandt said.
The men’s cross country team finished in second place at the divisional meet and had Brayden Burnett, Alex Horstman, Luke Hartman and Colin Johnson finish in the top 15. The team finished fifth at the state meet with Burnett finishing 12th with a time of 16:10. Horstman finished 26th.
