Alternative band alt-J drops new album

With 2022, alternative band alt-J released its newest album The Dream. With almost four years since their last album, the band released four songs as singles before releasing the entire album on Feb. 11.

According to Apple Music, “The body count on alt-J’s fourth album is high. At least three songs portray a death, another (“Losing My Mind”) explores the psyche of a serial killer and “Get Better” is an intensely moving depiction of grief. That said, The Dream also delights in the pleasures of drinking Coke (“Bane”), instant attraction (“Powders”) and getting wasted at festivals (“U&ME”).

alt-J is a band that understands music theory and how to manipulate music very well and is well known for some of their songs like “Breezeblocks,” “Something Good,” “Fitzpleasure” and “Tessellate.”

“U&ME” quickly rose to their top songs within days of release, showing instant fan approval. alt-J have always had deeper meanings behind their songs, and The Dream Is no exception to this. For example, the album An Awesome Wave is meant to be listened to in order and sounds exceptional when listened to in order. “Chicago” was originally meant to be two songs with some of the verses originally planned to be in “Happier When You’re Gone.”

One of my favorite songs on the album is “Philadelphia.” According to alt-J guitarist Joe Newman, “It’s the last moments of someone who’s dying in an alleyway. They’re very, very discombobulated, and they don’t really know what’s going on, and they’re kind of reminiscing, but at the same time, their heartbeat is slowing down and slowing down and they finally succumb.”

alt-J is a great band that really deserves a good listen, so next time you are bored and looking for something to listen to, go ahead and give The Dream Or An Awesome Wave a listen.
