Iowa State quarterback’s weekend effort inspires persistence

This past weekend, former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy suddenly became the starting quarterback for the Super Bowl hopeful San Francisco 49ers football team. After the two quarterbacks in front of him on the depth chart went down with season ending injuries, the third stringer is now the one that takes the snaps for the 49ers.

Purdy was drafted 262nd overall in the 2022 NFL draft. The 262nd pick is the very last pick in the draft, and whoever is drafted with that pick inherits the nickname of “Mr.Irrelevant;” however, Purdy is far from irrelevant.

After quickly being thrown into the game, he threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, leading the 49ers to a win over arguably one of the best teams in the league, the Miami Dolphins. The former Iowa State student and quarterback will be making history this upcoming Sunday as the first ever Mr.Irrelevant to start at quarterback in an NFL game, as he and the 49ers face off against the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady.

From zero to hero, Purdy is an example for anyone out there with a dream that they believe in, that they can achieve and that each one of us can be more than the labels put upon us.
