Main Street preps for holiday shoppers

As we come to December, the Cedar Falls main street is starting to decorate. Recently, Whimsical Twist, which is run by Candice Warby, went around decorating and designing storefronts by painting the windows of many businesses. The art work displays the business, what it is about and includes the role of the business in the Cedar Valley.

One of her many designs downtown so far is at the local shoe store, The Runner’s Flat, run by Scott and Sarah Gall. The store has been here for many years and has received some Christmas decorations this year.

“Being a small business owner during the holiday season is busy at times. Our busy season is spring/summer mostly, but the holidays kick things up again. Shop Small is by far our biggest day of the year,” Runner’s Flat’s Sarah Gall said. “It is fun to have decorations, and it adds to the hospitality. We like having our store front decorated and Christmas music over the speakers in the store.”

Another business that has been hit by the magic of Whimsical Twist is the Tea Cellar, on State Street. She has given the tea menu a face lift as customers enter the holiday season.

Cedar Falls Main Street recently hosted Holiday Hoopla, which is a downtown tradition.

Sarah Gall said, “Holiday Hoopla brings awareness to our downtown. We aren’t open on that specific event night because we don’t get much traffic like other businesses do (restaurants, etc.) We do attend the event to have our store presence in and around the festivities, however. As a family, we really enjoy Holiday Hoopla.”
