For the past week, students at Holmes have been preparing for Valentine’s Day in the form of wooden rose sales. Students could buy a rose for $3 each, $5 for a half dozen and $10 for a dozen.
A wide variety of colors were offered, including red, pink, blue and yellow. On the final day of sales, the student council tallied a grand total of over $700. “I think sales could’ve gone better, but we did pretty good,” Vice President Lauren Sulentic said.
This money goes toward funding dances, council-funded school improvements and the annual “end of year gift.”
Each year, the student council provides a gift to the school in the form of improvements or something the students have wanted during the year. Last year, a water bottle filler was donated to the school from the student council.
On Valentine’s Day, students were given their roses during seventh hour. Each rose came with a piece of chocolate to wrap up Valentine’s Day.
