Athlete of the Week | Alex Shepard | Esports

Esports team captain Alex Shepard and the other five members of the Overwatch team recently captured the national championship and $1,000 apiece in college scholarship money for their efforts.

 How did you get into esports?

 I have been playing video games ever since I was a little kid, and playing them competitively has been a passion of mine ever since middle school. 

What’s your favorite thing about esports? 

Working with a team and building off of one another to become better together.

How do you train for a tournament? 

Our team will usually try to scrimmage other teams one-two times a week for about two hours at a time.

How does it feel when you win? 

It’s a great feeling to win when everyone puts in the effort during practice and it pays off.

How do you feel when you lose, and what do you do to get better?

Losing is never fun, but I always try to rewatch the match and see what went wrong so I can try to improve on that for the next match.

How long have you been interested in esports?

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been interested in esports. Whenever my friends want to play a new game I always make it my goal to be one of the best at it.
