Tigers face off against Hempstead tonight for Homecoming

Coming off the loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Falls aims to add a fifth tally to the win column when they take on the Mustangs of Dubuque Hempstead. All eyes will be focused on junior quarterback Gavin Steege as he makes his first career varsity start in the Tigers homecoming game.

The Mustangs (3-3) are riding a two game win streak after defeating Davenport West and Muscatine the last two weeks. Quarterback Noah Pettinger has been phenomenal all season, throwing for 1,149 yards and nine touchdowns along with 355 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Steege has thrown just 18 passes all season for the Tigers, completing seven of them for 127 yards and a touchdown. Steege also has 68 yards rushing and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Hempstead has three receivers who have already surpassed 250 yards this season. The trio is led by Luke Odefey who has 19 receptions for 400 yards followed by Jayden Siegert who has 351 yards on 35 catches.

The final member of the trio is Charlie Besler who has brought in 17 catches for a total of 264 yards.

Leading the charge for the Tigers is Trey Campbell who has 375 yards on 23 catches. Following him is Caeden Janssen with 227 yards on 18 catches.

Cedar Falls has won seven of the last nine meetings against the Mustangs but are coming off a 20-13 loss against Hempstead in the Dome last year.

The Tigers will be looking for revenge as they take on the Mustangs tonight at 7:15 in the UNI-Dome.
