Choirs showcase songs at All City concert on Monday night

Cedar Falls Schools hosted their annual All City Chorus concert at the high school in the gym at 7 p.m. on April 11. This is a concert with all of the choirs from Cedar Falls Public schools where they sing various songs together for their friends and family that come to watch.

Kim Kranz is the chorus director and music teacher at Orchard Hill, and her husband Eliott Kranz is a music director at the high school. Kranz said that All City is an event where “fifth and sixth grade chorus members from all seven elementaries are singing, along with both junior highs and the high school choir.”

She said, “Cedar Falls has had a vocal all city program for a very long time but it used to just be fifth and sixth grade chorus students. Several years ago the vocal music staff decided it would be a great opportunity to feature all singers, so we added the junior and high school choirs.”

The choirs have all spent the past few weeks learning and practicing their songs. Kranz said, “None of the elementary schools sing all by themselves, but all fifth and sixth grade chorus students have been working on the same music since winter break so that we are prepared to sing those songs all together under the direction of Mr. Kranz, the high school choir director.” Students performed their songs, including everyone singing a final song together to conclude the concert.

Freshman Viviane Nunez is in the ninth grade choir at Peet and said, “We have been preparing for a really long time, and I am ready to show our hard work. I  also can’t wait to get more new music.”

“Vocal All City is a great experience for all singers and the audience to hear the progression of musicianship accomplished by our vocal music program here in Cedar Falls,” Kranz said.
