Bike Tech, Bike Club partnership wraps up fall riding season

For the past nine years, Holmes PE teacher Lauren Greiner has been running Bike Club, an eight-week fall and spring program sponsored by Bike Tech. All students need to do is ride their bikes to school every Thursday and check in with Mrs.Greiner at the bike rack. This past Thursday was the club’s last check in day.

“This fall we have had 43 different students participate in Bike Club. Our numbers this fall have been similar to those in years past, but the amount of students riding tends to fluctuate based upon the weather,” Greiner said. “Many students who live relatively close to school opt to ride their bikes. It is a great source of physical activity, and is much quicker than walking.”

Elsie Strohm, a Holmes eighth grader, was one of the riders who rode every week for all eight weeks. Like many other students, Strohm participated in Bike Club because it encouraged her to exercise more. She said, “My favorite part was coming to school with the fresh air blowing on my face and meeting Mrs.Greiner at the bike rack. Strohm encourages students to participate in Bike Club because they can get cool prizes.”

For students who ride their bikes for at least six weeks total, they receive a free water bottle from Bike Tech. Students who ride seven weeks total earn a $10 gift card to Bike Tech, plus a Bike Tech water bottle. Students who have stayed faithful and ridden all eight weeks have earned a $10 gift card, water bottle and they have their name entered in a drawing for a $50 Bike Tech gift card.
