Holmes Variety Show announces theme, important dates

The Variety Show is a tradition at Holmes Junior High in which students showcase different kinds of acts such as singing, dancing, cheerleading, drama and comedy acts. Preparation has officially begun for this year’s show.

The directors of the show will be Jeremy Prouty, Ashley Cardamone and Alice Pruisner. They held this year’s theme reveal on Friday, Oct. 21. It was revealed to students that the theme will be time travel. Students who would like to participate with an act of their choice can audition with the act they want to perform with on Wednesday, Nov. 16, Thursday, Nov. 17 and Friday, Nov. 18. Auditions for the drama act will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Students who want to MC have auditions on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Students also have the option of participating in the tech crew and helping to run the show. The tech crew’s jobs will entail moving equipment, managing transitions and running lights, sound, and curtains.

The rehearsals will begin during the week of Dec. 5, with an act usually practicing once per week. There will be daily rehearsals during the weeks leading up to the show.

There will be three shows. The first will be a matinee during the school day, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2. The second show will be Friday, March 3, at 7 p.m. The final show will occur on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m.

Freshman Chloe Lockard has been in the Variety Show since she was in seventh grade and will be involved in it for the last time this year. Lockard said she will be participating in a cheer stunt group, a string quartet and the Up & Ups, which is a dancing group.

Lockard said, “I love all the people in it and how nice everyone is. Everyone has great ways to make the show better. I look forward to all the fun rehearsals. I love the dress rehearsals and when everything starts to come together.”

Freshman Trinity Jurries is new to Holmes, and it will be her first year involved with the show. Jurries said she is interested in doing different singing acts for the Variety Show but is not positive about what specific acts she will be in.

Jurries said, “I wanted to be a part of the Variety Show because it had to do with singing and performing on stage. I’m excited to do it with some of my friends.”
