Holmes hosts ninth grade formal

On Saturday, April 22, Holmes Junior High hosted the annual ninth grade formal. In addition to an all-school dance this year, the junior high had a dance solely for the freshman before they moved on to the high school next year.

Freshman Kaylee Stitchman was looking forward to attending the formal. Stitchman said, “I’m really excited to hang out with people, eat the food, and enter for the prizes they’re offering, and just have a good time overall. I’m also pretty excited about wearing the dress and the shoes I have for it. It’s really exciting and I think it’s going to be fun for everyone there.”

Getting ready for the dance was a long process. Stitchman said, “I’m going have my cousin come over to do my hair and makeup. I’ll probably also get ready with some friends. We’ll get something to eat beforehand and then head to the dance.”

Freshman Oliver Hakanson said, “I’m excited to spend time with friends while I’m at the dance. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. I think it will be a very entertaining event.”

Associate principal Justin Urbanek said, “We had a parent group that helped with all the planning of the event.  They all helped with the theme, food, decorations, and finally all the prizes. The main goal was that kids have fun and enjoy the night.  Of all the students I talked to, they all seemed to have had a pretty good time.  And we had 170 of our 217 kids show up.  I see that as being pretty successful.”

The dance started at 7:30 and ended at 9:30.
