Horns make devious twist for hair clips

By Skylar Promer

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, “What would I look like with horns?” Well, wonder no longer and make your own, by following these simple steps.

1. Materials to have: Any type and color of polymer clay, hot glue, a paintbrush, nail polish remover, paper towels, an oven, baking pan, sculpey gloss glaze and hair clips. You can find the clay, gloss glaze, hot glue gun and paint brush at Jo-ann’s Fabric and Craft store. The clips shown here, as well as the nail polish remover are from Walmart.

2. Start by rolling out two balls of the clay of your choice. Make sure they are about equal in size.

3. Begin gently pressing the bottom onto the table to make a flat surface, and then shape the sides into a cone shape.

4. Now roll the sides on the table, making the top into a point.

5. Next, gently bend the point to a position that you would like it in. Otherwise, try to make it look like a Hershey’s Kiss, and remember they do not have to look exactly alike.

6. Once you have shaped them into a shape you like, place them on a baking pan. Make sure you preheated your oven to 275 F before baking them for 15 minutes.

7. Once the 15 minutes are up, remove them from the oven and let them cool for about five minutes.

8. Next, remove the now cooled horns from the pan and gently clean them with a paper towel and a little bit of the nail polish remover. Then carefully glue them to your hair clips.

9. After the glue has dried, use the paintbrush to gently brush on the gloss glaze. You want to make sure the paint brush doesn’t have any hard bristles when you do this because it can leave marks on your horns.

10. Let the gloss glaze dry. By putting on the gloss glaze, it should give your horns a glossy shine.

11. Have fun! These horns are great for boys and girls, for they come in almost any color you would want. Although it may take a few tries to make these, please don’t give up. Just believe in yourself and no matter what they will turn out amazing.
