Majda Suljic Is a junior on the volleyball team that finished in second place last week.

How long have you been playing and what made you want to go out for the high school team?

“I’ve been playing competitively since I was about seven. I started out YMCA, and then I started club in fifth grade, and I’ve been playing since. I went out for the high school team because volleyball is in my family. Both of my parents play competitively, so it’s just kind of something I grew up with. It’s just kind of custom.”

How did it feel to be No. 1 all season and then go to State?

“It’s kind of hard to put into words. It’s very exciting to be No. 1, and it was kind of nerve wracking because we knew we had a huge target on our back, and then State was kind of a place for us to prove why we were No. 1, prove why we were there all season.”

What are you looking forward to next year on the team?

“Just having the same squad and seeing just how far we can grow during our club seasons and come back and, you know, regroup, just get to play together again.”

How did you do during State?

“I made top three in aces. I had five aces in State, and I made top four for digs with 24 digs.”

What do you do for training outside of the season?

“Well, I play club, so then when I’m not playing club like during the summer, I play beach volleyball, and both of my parents play, so I always play like pickup leagues with them or in open gyms and tournaments like other adults, so I have always had the exposure. I also have my lifting, like I’ll go lifting with my dad or at the school.”
