Randev Goonesekere | Men’s Soccer

How long have you been playing soccer? “I have been playing soccer since I was four. Competitively I have been playing since fifth grade when I started on a select team.”

What has been your biggest accomplishment from this season so far? “I would say my hat trick [three goals in one game] from when we played against Ankeny and when I converted the penalty. Also, when I scored two goals in the Linn-Mar game.”

What are your personal goals? “One personal goal would be to score another hat trick and to help the team get far into State.” 

Have you faced any struggles in soccer? “I guess I was always a small kid, so I had to build up confidence so that I could tell myself I could be on the field and be faster than the bigger guys.” 

What is your favorite soccer memory? “I think my favorite memory was last year when I scored a hat trick against Xavier and we won that game. I think that that game was so amazing because that hat trick was the only three goals I scored last season.”

Do you plan on playing soccer after high school? “I think that I will definitely be playing recreational soccer after high school.”
