The Cedar Falls Booster Club has nominated 30 students into its prestigious group of athletes deemed worthy of being placed in the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame.
The hard work and achievements needed to get into the award group include, but are not limited to, being named first team all-state, first or second in officially sanctioned state championship meet or tournament, Drake Relays champion or runner-up or top 10 finisher at the state cross country meet, state golf meet or state tennis meet, or named all-state academic for their particular sport.
Athletes from all types of sports like volleyball, basketball, golf, cheerleading, dance team, swimming, track, cross country and football are all included in the hall of fame.
For a lot of athletes, this placement into the hall of fame pushes them to keep with their respective sport and continue to grow and be better. Not only is it a title, it’s a driving force to propel athletes to keep going with their passion and sport.
Megan Sawyer is a junior on the women’s golf team who has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for being among the state team champions.
Sawyer said, “For me it’s a really big honor and it’s very rewarding to my team because we have worked so hard the last few years to get to where we were, and for that to be recognized is really uplifting. It’s just very rewarding to see all of our hard work pay off.”
Cedar Falls Alumni Matt Timmer was also included in the Hall of Fame. He was put in for being named state champion in track for the 4×400.
He said he was surprised. “My dad actually got the letter and told me about it because I really didn’t know that we even had a hall of fame. It was nice coming back and seeing everyone from CF and being recognized for my achievement.”
He was sad to say that he wanted to continue training and running after high school but school has been taking priority right now for him.
Dylan Moffatt, a freshman swimmer on the men’ swim team from Hudson, has also won a spot in the Hall of Fame by being named first in state in the 500 Free.
Regarding the award ceremony, Moffatt said, “It was nice to hear that Cedar Falls would recognize someone who didn’t go to their school district, and it was an honor to be there.”
